Moonstruck from Marbella…

I don’t know if any of you were out doing some moon-bathing in the glorious glow of August’s Full Sturgeon Moon a couple of nights ago,  as I was in Marbella – but it really was a spectacular sight to behold.

I went down to the shores of Marbella Town on the eve of the full moon,  where obscured at first by mottled clouds, she revealed herself in a haze of orange glory, on the backdrop of an inky black sky.

On the night of the full-moon itself, I went with a friend for a moonlit picnic on a beach out of town, where moon-gazers like us,  basked in her mystical beams and strolled along the shores before a sea mist descended and it was time to go home.

I hope you´ll enjoy the photos I took, some with magical moonlight effects…

A celebration of Marbella Town’s autumnal sunset seascapes and magical moons

Marbella sunset skiesHaving been absent from Marbella Town throughout the month of September due to the death of my dearest Dad at the end of August – and not really here in spirit since my return – it is only since I got back home last weekend after a week literally walking my grief away in the healing wooded hills of the nearby white village of Ojén (post coming soon)  – that I’ve come back down the mountain with my soul refreshed and inspired once more to relaunch my blog and  share the gentler-paced late autumnal life in Marbella  – both inside and out.

We have been blessed with inordinately beautiful mild weather these past few weeks and now the welcome rains have come, I’ve had time to go through my photos and select a few taken on my evening walks along Marbella Town’s beachfront promenade to share with you… Continue reading

Marbella Town’s beaches: A place to disconnect and reconnect…

Nothing brings people together like the sea and the beach – people of all ages and sizes, families, total strangers and from all walks of life, becoming one, casting off their worldly worries and responsibilities to reconnect with their inner joy and peace.

As someone who walks or cycles along the beachfront of Marbella Town almost every day, I have taken a series of photos over time that capture this collective sense of wonder, freedom and tenderness which I’d like to share with you here and which speak for themselves… Continue reading

Africa & Gibraltar: a vision of harmony and peace – Marbella Town seascapes vol. 4

Between two continentsI thought I´d share this series of photos with you that I took recently from the shores of Marbella Town, of the magnificent sunset views of the Atlas Mountains and Gibraltar – a vivid reminder from Mother Nature of the peaceful coexistence intended for us all, irrespective of race, creed or colour and which inspired this short poem:

As I gaze in wonder upon Africa and the Rock of Gibraltar

Etched in soft sunset hues upon the horizon before me,

Divided by only a seeming handspan of ocean

I wonder how it’s possible that conflict could even exist,

When presented with this vision of such harmony and peace... Continue reading

Freewheeling in & around Marbella Town: Marbella Leisure Harbour to Puerto Banús (7.4 km)

Puerto Banús on a bike

When my friend Alison came over with her family recently, I thought a fun way for them all to see Marbella’s luxury harbour complex Puerto Banús, would be to rent some bicycles and set off westwards along the beachfront promenade, stopping off for lunch there and having a wander around before heading back.

This makes for a great small group day outing from Marbella Town, and while I don´t tend to go as far as Puerto Banús when I head west from Marbella’s leisure harbour on one of my daily cycle rides, I started out at about 10.30 from there on a sunny morning last week to retrace the route we took, in order to share this with you… Continue reading

Glorious sunsets – Marbella Town seascapes vol.3

P1010033

The weather in Marbella Town since the middle of November has been particularly stunning – clear skies and warm sunny days, drawing to a close with the most incredible picture postcard sunsets.

With the profusion of palms and pine trees and other evergreen trees that surround us, we may not have the breath-taking autumnal leaf-shedding spectacle enjoyed in many other parts of the world but Mother Nature’s autumnal hues, have been reflected instead in Marbella Town’s sunset skies and pond-like shimmering sea. Living in a picture postcard by the sea – Marbella Town seascapes (vol. I)

1

Living as close to the beach as I do, I am always surprised by the number of Marbella Town’s long-term residents who rarely take the time to walk along its shores unless it’s in the summer, when for me, this is a time when Marbella’s beaches are to be avoided, unless its early in the morning or evening and clear of sunbathing holidaymakers.

Although a walk along the beachfront promenade gives you plenty of photo opportunities of the most amazing sunrises and sunsets Continue reading
